Gone but Never Forgotten

When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure. ~Author Unknown

Today is my grandma's funeral and due to severe weather complications I am here instead of at the service. I'm heartbroken.  Without a better way to put it, it just SUCKS!  But alas I can't dwell on it too much so here I am deciding to embrace that things happen for a reason and beyond our control.  So with that in mind, I wanted to celebrate some things I loved about my Grandma. She was such a beauty and I treasure the time I spent with her and the memories I have.  We would do crossword and jigsaw puzzles together.    She taught me to crochet (even though I never caught on to doing more than a chain) she would crochet and quilt beautiful intricate designs that were masterpieces.  In the summer we would go visit and she'd be out in the garden, picking raspberries and peas.  Canning pickles, fruit, and jellies.  We would bake and cook, and then we would get to do the dishes where it was my job to dry.  She would read and tell stories.  She would make beautiful seashell flowers from the shells she collected on her trips to Florida.  She would get fired up watching Iowa Hawkeye men's basketball games.   She loved homemade popcorn on the stove with salt and melted butter. And fishing for blue gill on the mighty Mississippi river, where later she would beer batter them and fry them up for supper. For Christmas we would go to their place and she would always have sugar cookies on the back porch ready for us to decorate. Which we would have to wait till after we went to church for Christmas Eve service. If you sat next to her she would softly caress your arm ever so gently.  She would make chicken noodle soup with raisins.

She loved to dance, that's how she met my grandpa. She loved to snuggle, smile, laugh, hum, and sing.
Every time we would drive away she would be out on the front steps waving to us until
we were out of sight.

Goodbyes are not forever.
Goodbyes are not the end.
They simply mean I'll miss you
Until we meet again!

Patience is a Virtue

I can't tell you how many times I've heard the saying "Patience is a virtue" and nothing has made it more true than being the owner of a rambunctious lab/australian shepherd mix puppy.  She is now seven and I can't believe how time has flown and how much we've been through in those seven years.  She's been the constant in my life through out, and even though she has given me a lot of grief she has also given me endless amounts of love and valuable lessons.

Singing & Dancing in the Rain

I have to admit I have only seen Singin in the Rain a couple of times (which is shocking since I absolutely adore Gene Kelly), but the song has been playing over and over again in my head. Lately I've found myself in a bit of a downpour of challenges in my life and in an effort to navigate the storm with some degree of optimism I'm attempting to dance because as the saying goes...

This picture of me was taken by a friend of mine two summers ago when were got drenched running to our cars after work, I decided I can't get anymore wet than I already am, might as well embrace it.
